PM WALE WRAPS UP PRODUCTIVE TOKYO VISIT, STRENGTHENS JAPAN TIES PRIME Minister Hon. Matthew Wale has successfully concluded his official visit to Tokyo, Japan, marked by a series of high-level and productive engagements. During the visit, the Prime Minister and his delegation met with Honorary Chair of the Nippon Foundation Mr. Yohei Sasakawa.... Discussions focused on expanding cooperation opportunities. Prime Minister Wale extended an invitation for the Foundation to engage more closely with the Solomon Islands private sector, while welcoming its offer to support initiatives in the education sector. The Prime Minister was also hosted to a luncheon by the Japan–Solomon Islands Parliamentary Friendship League, where discussions centred on strengthening parliamentary ties and deepening bilateral cooperation between the two nations. In further engagements, Prime Minister Wale met with President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Dr. Akihiko Tanaka. The Prime Minister acknowledged JICA’s continued support to Solomon Islands’ development priorities. A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a Development Policy Loan between Solomon Islands and JICA, aimed at supporting fiscal stability and enhancing economic resilience. The agreement was signed by JICA President Dr. Tanaka and Solomon Islands Minister for Foreign Affairs & External Trade, Hon. Rick Houenipwela. Prime Minister Wale also held discussions with former Japanese Prime Minister Hon. Fumio Kishida, where he was briefed on preparations for the upcoming Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 11). PM WALE ACCORDED GUARD OF HONOUR IN TOKYO, HOLDS BILATERAL TALKS WITH PM TAKAICHI Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Wale was today accorded a Guard of Honour upon his arrival at the Prime Minister’s Office to meet Japan’s Prime Minister, Hon. Sanae Takaichi. Prime Minister Takaichi acknowledged the visit, describing it as a significant occasion in honour of a special guest, and reaffirmed the strong and longstanding relationship between Japan and Solomon Islands. During their meeting, the two leaders held bilateral talks focused on strengthening cooperation and deepening ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Takaichi emphasised that Solomon Islands remains a true friend of Japan, reaffirming Japan’s continued support for the Government and people of Solomon Islands. In response, Prime Minister Wale expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation. “Solomon Islands values Japan as a trusted friend that has stood with us through thick and thin. We deeply value this partnership and remain grateful for Japan’s continued support,” Prime Minister Wale said. Prime Minister Wale further assured that Solomon Islands remains committed to maintaining strong and stable relations with Japan and all its development partners. As part of the ceremony, Prime Minister Takaichi presented Prime Minister Wale with a soccer ball and a ceremonial sword, known as an ‘iaitou’, symbolising friendship and goodwill between the two nations. A 19-year-old male person was remanded after cutting his cousin brother with a bush knife in Malaita province A remand application has been granted to Auki police to remand a 19-year-old male person for cutting his cousin brother with a bush knife at Dala South in West Kwara’ae recently. Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, said it was alleged that the suspect cut the victim on the right side of his neck while the deceased was lighting a fire in the kitchen. "Later, when the victim fell on the ground, the suspect continued to strike him with the bush knife on other parts of his body,” PPC Ramosaea said. 24 RSIPF officers promoted to the rank of inspector A total of twenty-four officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) were promoted to the rank of inspector today (23 July 2025) at Rove Police Headquarters. Four female officers were among those twenty-four officers promoted to the rank of inspector. The promotion is for the middle management level of the RSIPF organisation here in Honiara and the provinces. The promotion process has been thorough and transparent, ensuring that each candidate was evaluated fairly based on merit, experience, and their contributions to the RSIPF organisation. Those who promoted officially endorsed following careful recommendations and approval made by our distinguished panel, who conducted consultations with the Ministry of Public Service to ensure adherence to the highest standards of professionalism and governance. Acting Commissioner of RSIPF Mr James Aitorea, in his brief remarks during the promotion ceremony, said this promotion is not a privilege, but it is a great duty you must have, dedicated to you by the nation to manage and lead officers under your supervision according to the standing orders of the RSIPF organisation and the expectations of the people of this country.
