SINU and Tabaka Technical Institute Sign Landmark MoU to Strengthen Provincial Technical Education

PRESS RELEASE | 14 August 2026 SINU and Tabaka Technical Institute Sign Landmark MoU to Strengthen Provincial Technical Education The Solomon Islands National University (SINU), Tabaka Technical Institute (TTI) and the United Church Education Authority have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen technical and vocational education and training (TVET), institutional capacity and access to skills development in the provinces. The partnership will support collaboration in curriculum and programme development, professional development, quality assurance, governance, industry partnerships, apprenticeships, applied research and digital learning. SINU Vice-Chancellor Professor Transform Aqorau said the MoU connects SINU’s national mandate with the skills and aspirations of provincial communities, while strengthening pathways for learners and supporting employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. TTI Principal Mr Joash Lawrence welcomed the partnership, saying it will provide opportunities to strengthen TTI’s programmes, trainers, governance and quality assurance systems. Education Provider representing the United Church Education Authority, Mr Trevour Bele, also welcomed the agreement and highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring TTI continues to provide relevant and quality technical and vocational education. The five-year partnership reflects SINU’s wider commitment to working with technical training institutions across the provinces to expand access to quality TVET and support skills development closer to communities. PRESS RELEASE | 14 August 2026 SINU and SPC Strengthen Partnership in Fisheries, Agriculture and Island Futures The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) welcomed Dr Paula Vivili, Director-General of the Pacific Community (SPC), and his delegation for discussions on strengthening cooperation between the two regional institutions. The discussions explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in fisheries education, applied research, professional training and community engagement, as well as agriculture, including climate-smart farming, food and nutrition security, biosecurity and livelihood development. Further opportunities will also be explored through SINU’s Centre for Islands Futures, particularly in connecting research and innovation with the needs of government, industry and communities. SINU Vice-Chancellor Professor Transform Aqorau highlighted the importance of SPC’s technical expertise and evidence-based approach in supporting sustainable development across the Pacific. The meeting reaffirmed SINU and SPC’s shared commitment to building a stronger, practical and long-term partnership that delivers meaningful benefits for Solomon Islands and the wider Pacific.
