SINU Strengthens International Partnership with the University of Newcastle Through Memorandum of Understanding

📄 PRESS RELEASE | 3 August 2026 SINU Strengthens International Partnership with the University of Newcastle Through Memorandum of Understanding The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) has strengthened its international partnerships following the signing of a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Newcastle, Australia, during an official visit by Vice-Chancellor Professor Transform Aqorau from 30–31 July 2026. The MoU was signed by Professor Aqorau on behalf of SINU and Mr Nathan Towney, Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement and Equity), on behalf of the University of Newcastle. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in teaching, research, innovation, staff and student mobility, and institutional development, supporting the sustainable development priorities of Solomon Islands. Professor Aqorau described the partnership as a significant milestone in SINU's internationalisation journey, noting that it aligns with the University's Strategic Plan 2026–2030 by strengthening academic quality, expanding research opportunities, enhancing postgraduate education, and building staff capability through international collaboration. During the visit, discussions identified several priority areas for collaboration, including programme quality and accreditation, public health, fisheries and marine governance, engineering, renewable energy, digital education, Indigenous and Pacific knowledge systems, and environmental sustainability. Both universities also explored the development of a Graduate Certificate in Recycling and Waste Management to build national expertise in environmental management and the circular economy. SINU looks forward to working closely with the University of Newcastle to implement the partnership and deliver meaningful outcomes that strengthen higher education, research, and national development in Solomon Islands and across the Pacific. 📖 Read more here: https://www.sinu.edu.sb/sinu-strengthens-international-par.../
