Royal Taekwondo Holds Grading

The Royal Taekwondo Club Solomon Islands (RTCSI) has successfully conducted its colour belt grading at the Rove Police Club in Honiara over the weekend.
RTCSI instructor and president Nelson Ramoi told Star Sports this week that the grading featured athletes competing for white, yellow, blue and green belts.
Ramoi said the successful completion of the grading has paved the way for the club to hold its belt presentation, where athletes will officially receive their new belts.
The grading included children aged six years and above, with six children taking part.
A total of 27 athletes were graded for beginner white belts, while five athletes were graded for green belts and 12 for yellow belts.
Ramoi clarified that the recent assessment was an internal club colour belt grading aimed at developing and promoting the athletes.
He said the club will also open registrations for new intakes during the belt presentation.
Ramoi said he was proud and grateful for the successful completion of the grading, praising the athletes for displaying discipline, respect and determination.
“I am truly proud and grateful for the successful completion of our recent Taekwondo belt grading.
“Seeing our students perform with discipline, respect, and determination made me very proud as an instructor and as someone who cares deeply about this club,” Ramoi said.
He said the improvement shown by the athletes in technique, fitness, confidence and spirit demonstrated that hard work was paying off.
“For the students, this grading is a milestone that motivates them to keep pushing for the next level,” he said.
Ramoi said the club's role extends beyond martial arts, with Taekwondo training also helping to build strong character, unity and national pride among its members.
He said the sport provides students with self-defence skills while teaching important values such as discipline, respect and responsibility, which they can carry into their homes, schools and communities.
Looking ahead, Ramoi said the club has a big vision for the development of its athletes, with the aim of creating a clear pathway for students to compete successfully at national level and eventually progress to international competitions.
“It is my dream to see our students represent Solomon Islands and represent our club with honour on the world stage.
"I believe we have talented young people here in Honiara who, with the right training and support, can become champions,” he said.
Ramoi also acknowledged the contribution of the club's executive committee, coaches and instructors for their leadership, sacrifice and commitment to the development of the athletes.
“None of this would be possible without our team behind the scenes.
"I want to sincerely thank our executive committee, our coaches and instructors for your leadership, sacrifice, and commitment.
"Your hard work is shaping the future of these students and the future of Taekwondo in our country,” he said.
He said RTCSI remains committed to training with excellence, supporting one another like family and upholding the core values of Taekwondo — courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.
Ramoi also thanked the parents, supporters and students for their continued support, saying the successful grading marks only the beginning of a greater journey for the club and Solomon Islands Taekwondo.
JENLY TEGU WINI FINISHES FIFTH IN
WOMEN’S 53KG WEIGHTLIFTING

Team Solomon weightlifter Jenly Tegu Wini has finished fifth in the Women’s 53kg Weightlifting event after recording a combined total lift of 172kg.
Tegu Wini lifted 74kg in the snatch before producing a 98kg clean and jerk to finish the competition with a total of 172kg.
She successfully lifted 95kg on her first clean and jerk attempt but missed her second attempt at 98kg.
The Solomon Islands weightlifter showed resilience on her final attempt, successfully lifting 98kg to secure fifth place overall.
Team Solomon praised Tegu Wini for her determination, resilience and fighting spirit throughout the competition.
The team said representing Solomon Islands at her fifth Commonwealth Games is a significant achievement and another chapter in an outstanding career that continues to inspire the nation.
Team Solomon also congratulated Tegu Wini for her dedication and commitment to Solomon Islands sport, saying her journey and achievements remain an inspiration to the next generation of athletes.

Vanuatu champions use Honiara friendlies to fine-tune OFC campaign while giving local clubs valuable international exposure

Vanuatu champions Galaxy FC have arrived in Honiara determined to use a series of international friendlies against three Solomon Islands S-League clubs as the final step in their preparations for next month’s OFC Men’s Champions League in Fiji.
Speaking at a media conference at Lawson Tama Stadium yesterday, Galaxy FC head coach Batrum Suri said the tour was arranged to sharpen his side for the regional competition while also providing valuable international experience for the Solomon Islands clubs.
“Our coming was meant for preparation for the O-League.
“Our first test match will be tomorrow against Central Coast. We like to play international friendlies so that we can experience the standard of international football,” Suri said.
Galaxy FC will face reigning Telekom S-League champions Central Coast FC today before taking on SOSA FC on Thursday and Malaita Kings FC in the final match of the tour.
Despite dominating domestic football in Vanuatu, Suri said his side still needs stronger opposition ahead of the regional championship.
“In Vanuatu we have won four competitions already, but we still believe we are not yet fully prepared.
“We still need these friendlies because we want to reach another level before the Champions League,” he said.
Galaxy opens their OFC campaign against Fiji champions Rewa FC, a fixture Suri expects will be a stern challenge.
“Our first game against Rewa will not be easy because we will play on their home ground in front of their supporters. These friendlies are very important for our preparation,” he said.
Suri said Solomon Islands was chosen because the local clubs will also benefit from testing themselves against quality international opposition.
“I chose Solomon Islands because I also wanted to help the clubs here, especially Central Coast. International football is different from domestic competition,” he said.
Central Coast FC head coach Jacob Moli welcomed the opportunity, describing Galaxy FC as the perfect benchmark before the OFC tournament.
“Tomorrow’s game is a good opportunity for us. We haven’t had many matches to test ourselves, so this will show us where we are and what we need to improve,” Moli said.
He added that his priority is to assess the team’s performance rather than focusing on the result.
“I’m not too worried about the result. I want to see how the players perform together and identify what we need to improve,” he said.
SOSA FC head coach Stanley Waita said the friendly will be a valuable experience for his young squad.
“We have a young team and the boys are excited because many of them will experience international football for the first time,” Waita said.
Meanwhile, Malaita Kings FC said facing one of Vanuatu’s top clubs will provide invaluable exposure for players who have never competed against overseas opposition.
The three-match series will be played at Lawson Tama Stadium, with all four coaches encouraging football fans to turn out and support the regional showcase.
Galaxy FC are the reigning champions of Vanuatu and will represent their country at the upcoming OFC Men’s Champions League in Fiji. The three-match tour also provides Central Coast FC, SOSA FC and Malaita Kings FC with rare international match experience as they continue their Telekom S-League campaign and prepare for future regional competitions.

Galaxy FC Touch Down for
Solomons Friendly Tour
Vanuatu's Galaxy FC have arrived in Honiara ahead of a three-match tour of the Solomon Islands, where they will face S-League clubs Central Coast FC, Sosa FC, and Malaita Kings FC in a series of friendly matches.
The 22-player squad touched down in Honiara on Monday afternoon, led by head coach Batram Suri.
Suri said the tour forms part of Galaxy FC's preparations for their return to the OFC Men's Champions League after a four-year absence.
The Vanuatu champions will open their tour on Tuesday - 28th July when they face reigning S-League champions Central Coast FC at 3pm at Lawson Tama Stadium.
Following the opening match, the Suri-led side will take on Sosa FC on Thursday July 30 before wrapping up the tour against Malaita Kings FC on Monday August 3.
Members of the public and supporters are being urged to turn and enjoy the matches while supporting their teams.

Katukatu qualifies for FIFA U-17 World Cup

The Solomon Islands men’s Katukatu team has secured a historic place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2027 after defeating hosts Papua New Guinea in a dramatic penalty shootout at the PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby over the weekend.
The victory sees Solomon Islands join New Zealand and Fiji as Oceania’s three representatives at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar next year after defeating hosts with a 4-1 score victory.
According to OFC over the weekend, Henry Fa’arodo’s side spent much of the third-place playoff under pressure but showed great determination to come from behind and snatch victory from Papua New Guinea to secure the final World Cup qualification spot.
Speaking to OFC after the match, captain George Lea’i praised his teammates for their commitment throughout the tournament.
“I am proud of my teammates for this victory. We never stopped believing and kept fighting until the end,” Lea’i said.
He also thanked supporters, families and fans both in Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea for their prayers and encouragement.
“Thank you to everyone back home and those here in PNG for your support. Above all, I thank God for giving me the strength to perform for my country,” he said.
Goalscorer Adriano Kabolo said the team never lost hope despite trailing for most of the match.
“We fought until the final whistle and stayed focused for the penalty shootout. We are very happy to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup,” Kabolo said.
“I want to thank all our supporters in Papua New Guinea and everyone back home in Solomon Islands for believing in us and supporting us throughout the tournament.”
Papua New Guinea dominated the opening half and created the better chances, with striker Boas Tommy twice denied by Solomon Islands goalkeeper Eddie Aefi. The hosts also struck the crossbar before defender Bomecge Basananuc had a header cleared off the goal line.
The breakthrough finally came in the 66th minute when Papua New Guinea captain Matthew Sopo fired a powerful first-time shot into the top corner to put the hosts ahead.
However, the Solomon Islands refused to give up. In the 84th minute, PNG goalkeeper Luther Rodney failed to hold onto a routine cross, allowing Adriano Kabolo to pounce and score the equaliser to force the match into a penalty shootout.
Having lost to Fiji on penalties in the semi-finals, the Katukatu held their nerve this time, converting four spot kicks while Papua New Guinea missed two. Captain George Lea’i calmly slotted home the winning penalty to seal a famous victory and spark jubilant celebrations.
According to OFC, the win sends Solomon Islands to its second FIFA U-17 World Cup, and its first appearance in eight years after previously qualifying in 2019. It is also the country’s highest finish at the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship since hosting the tournament in 2018.
The team’s achievement marks another milestone for Solomon Islands football and secures its place on the world stage once again.

AEFI WINS GOLDEN GLOVE AFTER INSTRUMENTAL U16 CHAMPIONSHIP CAMPAIGN

The Solomon Islands Men’s U16 goalkeeper Eddie Aefi has been awarded the Golden Glove following an impressive campaign at the OFC U16 Men’s Championship 2026.
Aefi played a key role between the posts as the Solomon Islands secured a third-place finish in the tournament and earned a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2027.
The young goalkeeper was instrumental throughout the championship, producing important performances to help the team achieve its tournament objectives.
His Golden Glove recognition highlights his contribution to the team’s successful campaign and marks a significant achievement for the rising goalkeeper.
Congratulations to Eddie Aefi on the award and to the Solomon Islands Men’s U16 team for securing a place at the 2027 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The award highlights the team’s discipline, sportsmanship and positive approach throughout the tournament, adding another achievement to an impressive campaign.
The young Solomon Islands side finished third in the championship, while also securing a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2027 in Qatar.
The team’s performance throughout the tournament has been a source of pride for Solomon Islands, with the Fair Play Award further reflecting the values and spirit displayed by the young players on and off the field.
The qualification for the U-17 World Cup marks a significant milestone for the players, who will now have the opportunity to represent Solomon Islands on the world stage in Qatar next year.
With the Fair Play Award in hand, the young Solomon Islands side will look to build on the values and style of play they demonstrated throughout the tournament as they prepare for their appearance on the international stage at the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2027 in Qatar.

SIFF President Reaffirms S-League's Vital Role in Football Development

Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) President Donald Marahare has reaffirmed that the SIFF Super League (S-League) remains vital to the development of football in the country, describing it as the premier competition for the nation's top clubs and players.
Speaking during the launch of the 2026 S-League season in Honiara on Saturday, Marahare said the competition serves as the foundation of football development in Solomon Islands and highlighted the importance of the league's Under-18 competition in nurturing future talent.
"Today marks the beginning of an exciting journey that celebrates talent, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
"At the heart of this journey lies the Super League, the premier 11-a-side competition that stands as the foundation of our football development. This league also encompasses the Youth League (U-18), which is a very important component," he said.
Marahare said the S-League is more than just a competition, describing it as a platform that helps players, coaches and officials grow both on and off the field.
"The S-League is more than just a competition. It is a platform where players and team officials alike can develop their skills, build confidence, form lasting friendships, and demonstrate the values of respect, integrity and fair play.
"Every match, every challenge and every achievement contributes to the growth of our athletes and our community," he said.
The SIFF President also acknowledged the efforts of the league organisers, clubs and volunteers for their commitment in delivering a successful start to the 2026 season.
"Your commitment and support have laid the foundation for what promises to be a successful and inspiring competition.
"To all participating teams, I encourage you to compete with passion, determination and respect for one another. Remember that true success is measured not only by victories but also by the character you display on and off the field," he added.
Marahare further highlighted the importance of the S-League's youth competition in providing opportunities for emerging players.
"The S-League also gives us youth integration, allowing rising stars from grassroots programs and academies the opportunity to shine on the biggest domestic stage," he said.
He added that SIFF's leadership recognises its responsibility to strengthen and grow the country's top domestic competition.
"My leadership recognises that the Federation must play a leading role in strengthening and growing the S-League for it to truly fulfil its potential.
"The Federation must focus on infrastructure investment by upgrading stadiums, training facilities and pitches to meet international standards; providing sustainable financial support for clubs to reduce reliance on external grants; improving coaching and refereeing through education and certification; strengthening youth academies so every province contributes talent to the Super League; and creating professional pathways that allow players to pursue football as a career, not just a passion," he said.
Meanwhile, following an entertaining opening round over the weekend, local football fans can look forward to another exciting round of S-League fixtures scheduled for next Saturday and Sunday.

CENTRAL COAST OPENS SUPER LEAGUE TITLE DEFENCE WITH A WIN
Defending champions Central Coast FC have opened their Super League title defence with a 1-0 victory over Marist FC on Sunday.
The opening win is an important boost for Central Coast as the club prepares to represent Solomon Islands at the OFC Champions League 2026 in Fiji.
With only a few matches remaining before their departure to Fiji, Central Coast will use these Super League fixtures as part of their final preparations for the regional competition.
NZ win OFC U-16 Men's Championship 2026
OFC: New Zealand have won a 12th OFC U-16 Men's Championship title, defeating Fiji 5-0 in the final of the 2026 edition at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea [PNG].
Davi Valles Dos Santos scored two of New Zealand's five goals in a dominant victory to cap an equally dominant campaign, scoring 24 goals in five matches at the tournament in Papua New Guinea.
New Zealand had taken 50 minutes to breakdown the host nation in the semi-finals but needed just 90 seconds on the contrary here against Fiji in the final.
Zach Cashmore nodded the Junior All Whites in front from a corner delivery at the near post to send them on their way – scoring New Zealand's earliest-ever goal in a final at the tournament.
Two more goals followed before the end of the first half, as Martin Bullock's side made sure of the title inside the first 45 minutes.
Davi Valles Dos Santos got the second in the 36th minute, after Fiji failed to clear their penalty box, and Cashmore was involved again for the third goal, his delivery deflecting off the knee of Fijian defender Somit Maharaj in first half stoppage-time.
Playing in just a third OFC U-16 Men's Championship final, Fiji did at least create some chances of their own, Ryan Swami powering the ball over the crossbar with the best of them from a corner delivery in the second half.
Another defensive error led to the fourth New Zealand goal though, substitute Jack Clegg stealing possession inside the box and picking out the back of the net in the 76th minute, moments after entering the field of play off the bench.
Clegg then turned provider four minutes later, picking off a poor pass, and rolling the ball into the path of Valles Dos Santos to score his second, and New Zealand's fifth and final goal of the evening.
The final whistle gave New Zealand the opportunity to lift the trophy for the 11th time in a row, maintaining their dominance of the OFC U-16 Men's Championship and the rest of the Oceania region.

The Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) has strengthened its high-performance training environment following the successful completion of a four-week placement by five Exercise and Sports Science students from Australia’s Macquarie University.
According to information shared by the National Sports Council (NSC), the placement was delivered under the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan and gave the visiting students an opportunity to work directly with SINIS strength and conditioning coaches while supporting local athletes.
Throughout the month-long attachment, the students gained practical experience in high-performance sport, contributing to daily training programs and learning alongside Solomon Islands coaching staff.
Beyond the training environment, the group also participated in a range of community activities, including school visits, the recent Solomon Games and other outreach programmes organised by the SINIS team.
During a farewell gathering, SINIS Performance Manager Zanetana Djokovic acknowledged the students’ efforts and thanked both the Australian Government and Macquarie University for their continued support.
“The students made a valuable contribution during their placement,” the NSC statement said.
Djokovic also recognised the partnership for helping strengthen knowledge exchange while contributing to the continued development of high-performance sport in Solomon Islands.
The five students were Jean Stump, Josh Coulton, Rory McFarlane, Jacqueline Hamilton and Simone Dyer.
The four-week placement is part of ongoing collaboration between SINIS and Australian institutions aimed at developing coaching capacity, improving sports science support and creating learning opportunities that benefit both visiting students and Solomon Islands athletes as the country’s high-performance sports programme continues to grow.

THE Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) will hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) at 10am on Monday, 27 July 2026, at the SIRUF Conference Room, Town Ground Rugby Stadium.
Representatives from the eight active affiliated member associations are expected to attend the meeting, which will consider reports on the confirmation of the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) minutes, member compliance and the election of new office bearers.
Officials from the National Sports Council (NSC) and the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) are also expected to attend to help ensure the election is conducted smoothly.
The SGM follows SIRUF’s Annual General Meeting, held on 25 May 2026, where reports and general activities were presented.
The upcoming meeting will focus on electing new office bearers to the Executive Board, with nominations having closed on Thursday.
The affiliated provincial member associations expected to attend are Honiara, Malaita, Bellona, East Rennell, West Rennell, Makira, New Georgia and Gizo.

Macquarie University Students Complete Four-Week Sports Placement at SINIS
Five Exercise and Sports Science students from Australia's Macquarie University have successfully completed a four-week New Colombo Plan placement with the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS), gaining valuable hands-on experience in high-performance sport while contributing to athlete development in Solomon Islands.
The National Sports Council (NSC), through SINIS, farewelled the students—Jean Stump, Josh Coulton, Rory McFarlane, Jacqueline Hamilton and Simone Dyer—after they spent the past month working alongside SINIS Strength and Conditioning coaches.
During the placement, the students assisted with athlete training programs, school visits, Solomon Games activities and community outreach initiatives, providing practical support while expanding their knowledge and experience in sports science and athlete performance.
SINIS Performance Manager Zanetana Djokovic thanked the students for their dedication and acknowledged the Australian Government and Macquarie University for supporting the New Colombo Plan, which promotes knowledge exchange and strengthens high-performance sport pathways in Solomon Islands.
The New Colombo Plan is an Australian Government initiative that provides university students with opportunities to study and undertake work placements across the Indo-Pacific region.

DCC Launches Community Sports Initiative to Promote Youth Participation
The Development Career Centre (DCC) has officially launched a new community sports initiative at DC Park in East Honiara, bringing together all 27 national sports federations in a united effort to promote sport, youth engagement, and healthy living.
The launch began with a colourful parade from the Multi-Purpose Hall to DC Park, where participants and spectators gathered for a day of sporting activities and community celebration.
The event featured sports demonstrations by the national federations, family entertainment, and raffle draws, creating an interactive environment for children, young people, and families to experience a wide range of sporting codes.
According to the organisers, the initiative is designed to encourage young people to take up sport, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and embrace active and healthy lifestyles. The Solomon Islands Under-16 men’s team will have one final opportunity to secure a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2027 when they meet hosts Papua New Guinea in tomorrow’s third-place playoff of the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship 2026.
According to an OFC Media Release issued following yesterday’s pre-match media conference in Port Moresby, the winner of the Melanesian showdown will claim Oceania’s third and final qualification spot for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, adding extra significance to what is already shaping up to be one of the biggest matches of the tournament.
The Katukatu boys narrowly missed out on a place in the championship final after suffering a heartbreaking 4-2 penalty shoot-out defeat to Fiji in Wednesday’s semi-final following a scoreless 90-minute contest.
Despite the disappointment, Solomon Islands head coach Henry Fa’arodo believes his young squad has continued to develop throughout the championship and is determined to finish strongly.
“I’ve seen the team grow with every single game. We’ve learnt a lot from the four games that we’ve played.
“The semi-final was a learning curve, and we want to remain focused moving forward into the third-place play-off,” he said.
Saturday’s encounter offers Solomon Islands the chance to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup for only the second time in the nation’s football history, having previously appeared at the global tournament in 2019.
Papua New Guinea, meanwhile, will be equally motivated as the hosts chase what would be their first-ever FIFA U-17 World Cup qualification.
The home side also enters the playoff following a semi-final defeat, having held tournament favourites New Zealand scoreless for much of the match before eventually losing 3-0.
With both teams coming off narrow setbacks, the playoff is expected to be a fiercely contested battle between two Melanesian rivals, with a World Cup berth at stake.
The match will kick off at 4pm local time on Saturday (tomorrow) at the PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby before Fiji and New Zealand meet later in the evening to contest the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship title.
Solomon Islands advanced to the semi-finals after finishing second in Group B during the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship 2026. The Katukatu boys have impressed throughout the tournament with disciplined performances and attacking football, and now stand just one victory away from returning to the FIFA U-17 World Cup after their historic debut appearance in 2019.

Round Seven of the Honiara Netball Association (HNA) Proper League 2026 is set to deliver another exciting weekend of competition, with clubs across the Super, A, B and C divisions preparing for crucial fixtures at the Honiara City Netball Courts.
The Honiara Netball Association announced the latest fixtures this week through its official social media platform, urging teams, officials and supporters to note the schedule and continue backing their respective clubs as the competition gathers momentum.
“The Honiara Netball Association (HNA) is pleased to release the fixtures for Round 7 of the HNA Proper League 2026.
“Teams and supporters are encouraged to take note of the fixtures and venues and come out in numbers to support the players as competition continues,” the association said.
Saturday’s action headlines another busy round with seven matches scheduled in the Super and A divisions and 10 more across the B and C divisions before the remaining fixtures are completed on Monday and Wednesday.
The Super Division title race remains finely poised, with Sunrise and Suvania 1 sharing top spot on 12 points after maintaining unbeaten starts through four matches.
Sunrise opens its Round Seven campaign against third-placed Southerns 1, while Suvania 1 faces SISCC 1 on Monday in a fixture that could influence the standings near the top of the table.
Another intriguing Super Division contest sees fourth-placed Phoenix 1 meet Sosa Faywright, while Police 1 and Owaraha 1 will both be chasing valuable points to climb away from the lower half of the ladder.
Division A also promises several competitive encounters. Current leaders Phoenix 2, who sit on 11 points, will face Green Berets 1 in one of the round’s feature matches, while second-placed Suvania 2 will meet Western Magic and third-placed West Rennell will take on Marist Tesa 1. Meanwhile, Hale 1 will look to upset SISCC 2 as teams continue battling for positions inside the top six.
The battle remains equally competitive in the lower divisions.
Division B leaders Sunrise 2 and Kolei both carry unbeaten records into another round of fixtures, while Manawai, Doves and SEWA 2 remain within striking distance should the frontrunners slip.
In Division C, co-leaders Southerns 3 and Tehila will be aiming to preserve their perfect records. Southerns 3 will face Nitas in what shapes as one of the most anticipated matches of the round, while Tehila will take on Isa Green as both sides continue their pursuit of the division title.
The HNA Proper League has continued to attract strong participation from clubs across Honiara, providing regular competition for players in all four divisions.
With the season moving deeper into its schedule, every match is becoming increasingly significant as teams look to strengthen their positions and build momentum towards the championship rounds.

Part of Team Solomon has safely arrived in Glasgow ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The team was led by Chef de Mission: Mr Fujiyama, General Team Manager: Mr Simon Chottu, with other officials and athletes from swimming and Weightlifting.
The first group of athletes from Boxing, Para Powerlifting, and athletetics arrived already last week together with Minister for Home Affairs, Hon. Fr. Maelanga, and his Acting PS.
Due to schedule of the games, only athlete yet to arrive is Judo this is in preparation for the Games, which will officially open on 23 July 2026 and conclude on 2 August 2026.

Solomon Islands middle-distance runner Stephen Rahuasi has begun his 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign after completing a week-long high-performance training camp in Brisbane, Australia.
The 23-year-old departed Brisbane for Glasgow, Scotland, on Thursday night ahead of his first-ever appearance at the Commonwealth Games.
Speaking to Star Sports before his departure, Rahuasi said he is well prepared and ready to give his best for his country.
"Preparations have been going well, and I feel well prepared to give my best for Solomon Islands," he said.
Rahuasi, who is currently studying Nursing at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU), said balancing his studies with athletics has been one of his biggest challenges.
He recently completed a 10-week nursing practicum before travelling to Brisbane for the training camp and admitted that adapting to the cooler weather was another hurdle.
"I completed my 10-week nursing practical just before coming to Brisbane for the week's training camp.
“It was quite difficult, especially adapting to the weather, but overall I think I am now ready to compete against some of the world's best," he said.
The national record holder in both the 1000m and the one-mile event, records he set at the Box Hill Burn meet in Australia in 2024 and 2026 respectively, will compete in the men's 800m at this year's Commonwealth Games.
He also goes into the games with valuable experience having represented the country at the recent World Athletics Championships.
"Despite the many challenges in the lead-up to the Games, I am determined to give my best for my country in Glasgow in the 800 metres," he said.
Rahuasi will be aiming to better his personal best of 1:53.50, which he set at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games as he is scheduled to compete in Round 1 of the men's 800m on July 28 at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow.
Meanwhile, he is one of 13 athletes selected to represent Team Solomon Islands at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Solomon Islands’ impressive run at the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship 2026 suffered a heartbreaking setback yesterday after the Katukatu boys went down 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out against Fiji following a tense goalless semi-final at the PNG Football Stadium.
According to the official post-match report released by Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Media, Fiji held their nerve from the penalty spot after neither side was not able to break the deadlock over 90 minutes, securing qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2027 and a place in Saturday’s championship final.
The defeat ended Solomon Islands’ hopes of reaching the tournament final but Henry Fa’arodo’s young side still has one final opportunity to book a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup when they contest the third-place playoff.
Despite entering the match as underdogs against an unbeaten Fijian outfit, the Solomon Islanders produced one of their most spirited performances of the tournament, unsettling their opponents with aggressive pressing and quick attacking transitions throughout much of the contest.
Young winger George Lea’i again proved influential on the left flank, creating several dangerous opportunities for his teammates during a lively first-half display.
Barry Waletofea came closest to opening the scoring for Solomon Islands after firing into the side-netting before later striking the bottom of the right post from another promising move created by Lea’i. Striker Jayer Makarani also went close, sending a shot narrowly wide as Solomon Islands repeatedly threatened the Fijian defence before halftime.
The Katukatu boys continued their attacking intent after the break, with goalkeeper Kirikiti Biu forced into a fingertip save to deny Gregy Gau from long range.
However, Fiji gradually found their rhythm as the match wore on, creating chances of their own through Ryan Swami and striker Isoa Baselala. Baselala missed the best opportunity of normal time when he blasted over the crossbar from close range after finding himself unmarked inside the penalty area.
With neither side able to find the breakthrough after 90 minutes, the semi-final was decided by penalties.
Fiji goalkeeper Kirikiti Biu emerged as the hero, producing two crucial saves before Baselala converted the decisive spot-kick to seal a 4-2 shoot-out victory.
“Goalkeeper Biu made two crucial stops, before striker Baselala struck the decisive penalty to win the shoot-out 4-2,” the OFC Media post-match report said.
The result sends Fiji into the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship final and confirms their qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2027, marking the third consecutive edition in which the Pacific nation has secured a place at the global tournament.
For Solomon Islands, the campaign is not over.
The Katukatu boys will now turn their attention to the third-place playoff, where victory will secure the remaining Oceania qualification berth for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2027.
Solomon Islands enjoyed an impressive campaign throughout the group stage to reach the semi-finals of the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship in Papua New Guinea.
